What to Write in a Wedding Invitation, With Sample Text

A wedding invitation has to answer four questions: who is inviting, whose celebration it is, when, and where. So at its core it contains the hosts' names, the couple's names, the date, day and time, and the venue's name and location. Then you add what is needed: an RSVP deadline, notes such as an adults-only request or dress code, and a contact number. After that comes the text itself, in the style that suits your family.

This article gives you a full checklist, then six ready-made texts you can copy and adapt.

What are the essential elements of a wedding invitation? #

This list is the minimum without which an invitation isn't complete. Go through it before publishing or printing.

1. The hosts #

In many families the invitation opens with the names of those inviting, usually the fathers of the groom and bride, with their titles if that is customary. In some modern invitations the couple themselves are the hosts. What matters is that both families agree on the form before it is written, and that names are spelt correctly.

2. The couple's names #

The two names are the heart of the invitation. Decide in advance: first names only, or full names? And whose name comes first? In some communities the bride is referred to as "the daughter of ..." without her name, and that is the family's decision.

3. The date, day and time #

Write the day and the date together, such as "Thursday evening, 7 January 2027". Mentioning the day reduces mistakes and makes the date easy to check. State the start time clearly, and if the reception begins at a different time, say so.

Make sure the day and the date really match. It is one of the most common mistakes.

4. The venue and location #

The hall's name alone isn't always enough. Add the city or area, and ideally a map link. In a digital invitation on Koroty the venue appears with a map that opens with a tap, so the guest doesn't need to ask for directions.

5. The RSVP request and its deadline #

Ask guests to confirm their attendance and give a specific date for replying. That helps you give the venue a number close to reality. The idea is explained in what RSVP means on a wedding invitation.

6. Notes for guests #

If the wedding has conditions, the invitation is the right place to mention them kindly:

  • An adults-only celebration.
  • A dress code, if there is one.
  • Arrival time, or when the doors close.
  • Any special arrangement for parking or entry.

Write them in a line or two, politely. For children specifically, see adults-only wedding invitation wording.

7. A number or a way to get in touch #

Give the number of a family member for questions, especially for elders or anyone who needs help getting there.

  • A photo of the couple or a gallery.
  • A thank-you note at the end of the invitation.
  • A countdown and an "add to calendar" button.

Tips for writing the invitation #

  1. Clarity matters more than ornament: a beautiful sentence doesn't make up for an unclear date.
  2. Keep it short: guests usually read the invitation on a phone. Extra details belong in the programme or the notes.
  3. Review it with both families, especially titles and the order of names.
  4. Read the text aloud: you will notice repeated words and heavy sentences.
  5. Test it on someone else: ask a relative to read it and tell you the date and place without looking a second time.

If the occasion is a nikah or katb al-kitab and not the wedding party, the wording differs slightly, and you will find it in nikah invitation wording.

Frequently asked questions #

Do the hosts' names have to appear in the invitation? #

It isn't compulsory, but it is customary in many families in Jordan and the Gulf. If the couple are the hosts, their two names are enough.

What is the right order for the information? #

The usual order is: opening, hosts, the couple's names, the date, the venue, then the RSVP request and the notes.

Should I write the Hijri date with the Gregorian one? #

That depends on your family's custom. If you write both, make sure they match the day you mention.

Can the text be changed after the invitation is sent? #

With a digital invitation on Koroty, yes. You edit the text, then press "Update", and the link stays the same so nothing needs resending.

When the parents are hosting #

If your parents are the hosts, wedding invitation wording from the bride's parents has samples for one set of parents, both families, divorced parents and a parent who has passed away.

The bottom line #

A good invitation starts with the essentials: who is inviting, for whom, when and where. Then it asks for an RSVP and mentions any notes kindly. Choose one of the texts above, tailor it to your family, and set it in a design that suits it. You can try your text in a Koroty design and preview it for free before deciding anything.
