How to write the date on an invitation

Lead with the weekday, then the date: “Thursday, 14 January 2027”. For formal invitations you can write it out: “Thursday, the fourteenth of January”. If some guests follow the Hijri calendar, add it in brackets: “Thursday, 14 January 2027 (6 Sha’ban 1448 AH)”. Avoid all-number dates like 01/02, which read differently in different countries.

FAQ

How accurate is the conversion?

It follows the Umm al-Qura calendar used in Saudi Arabia. The Hijri date can differ by one day in some countries depending on the moon sighting, so double-check before printing.

Why write both dates on an invitation?

In the Gulf and many Arab countries it’s customary to write the Hijri date and then the Gregorian one, so every guest reads the date in the calendar they use.

Which month names should I use?

In English invitations, write the month name in full (14 January 2027) to avoid confusion between day-first and month-first formats.

Does it work for dates far ahead?

Yes, from about 1350 to 1550 AH, roughly 1931 to 2126.
